I opened this episode with a song by Algerian great Warda Al-Jazairia, an obscurity by Hawaiian artist Paul Mark, Ethiopian jazz legend Teshome Meteku, and a contender for my favourite song of the year, Sophia Kennedy's 'Hello, I Found You.' I also played a run of three tracks that subvert or play on the notion of easy-listening/lounge music: first, Sebastian Cabot (Bagheera's voice in Jungle Book) doing a dramatic reading of Bob Dylan's 'Like A Rolling Stone' over an elevator-music backing-track; second, Devo's easy-listening version of their own hit 'Come Back Jonee'; and finally, Z-Rock Hawaii's bonkers 'I Get A Little Taste Of You,' a comedy-noise-pop collaboration between Ween and Boredoms.

This episode opened with a tune I'd been saving for months, Virna Lindt's 'Underwater Boy.' The rest of the episode featured some contemporary Ethiopian pop, a recording by the 'first singer-songwriter,' onomatopoeic dance, a hyperactive video game soundtrack, and new track by South London producer Svetlana. Tickets still available for the next Dig That Treasure! gig here.

Virna Lindt - Underwater Boy
Geremew Gualu - Sim Alew Gonder
Svetlana - Soho House
Swick & Lucid - Rubber

I'm going to go ahead and prematurely call this episode a classic. It had a bit of everything: mash-up plunderphonics, MIDI composition, Nepali pop, an all-time Ethiopian great, glitchy ambient folk, Smithsonian "ghetto reali[sm]," country-rock-n-roll and awesome South African rhythms. I love the diversity of this episode, and the general flow/sequencing of it. Tickets for Aldous RH, Wharfwhit and Kiran Leonard at Paper Dress Vintage still available here.

This episode kicked off with a creepy and light-hearted (I guess?) Mormon anthem by Janeen Brady. I followed with a diverse bunch, from Ethiopian oldie Bahta Gebre Hiwot and American Primitive guitarist Suni McGrath to Arabic synth-jam 'Khabarie' by Ihssan El Munzer and the classic 'Sparkling World' by Roberto Caccipaglia and Ann Steel. I also played two tracks by new female producers AMAZONDOTCOM (Los Angeles) and Audrey/Svetlana (South East London). Tickets for Aldous RH, Wharfwhit and Kiran Leonard at Paper Dress Vintage still available here.
